Tortoises (definite introduction)

The reason why they are called tortoises is because of their shells It is named after its slight depression, and as the turtle is continuously hunted and killed, it becomes more and more desolate. It is now listed as a second-level protected animal by the country. Therefore, it is not recommended to raise this kind of tortoise individually. So how should we raise the concave-armored tortoise? Next, we will talk about the breeding techniques of the concave-armored tortoise.

1. Ecological customs: Little is known about the wild life and customs of the tortoise, but everyone generally believes that it is native to the mainland. According to the findings of overseas zoologist, the concave-armored tortoise is a tropical and subtropical terrestrial tortoise. It likes to live in dry environments. The living areas include laurel plants, ferns, rhododendrons and a large number of epiphytes. The concave-armored tortoise is only found on fairly high hills and steep slopes, and far away from the water. During the rainy season, there are dense numbers of turtles crawling out to drink water. Under artificial breeding conditions, the resting point of the concave-shelled tortoise is fixed. During the day, it often crawls out to a dark place and stops moving. If it stays for a long time, tears will disappear from its eyes. When the ambient temperature is around 25°C, the turtle moves frequently, often crawling out of the turtle nest and squirming everywhere. When the ambient temperature is 32°C, the turtle often climbs into the water basin to drink water, and occasionally rests in the water basin for 5-10 minutes. When the ambient temperature reaches below 18°C and the turtle moves less, put it in the sand. Only the turtle's head will be exposed, and the entire body will be buried in the sand and hibernate.

2. Behavior: It is timid by nature. When startled, the head will shrink into the shell, and then immediately extend out of the shell, repeated several times, and the mouth will continue to make "chi, chi" sounds. After it calmed down, its head shook from side to side, and then slowly extended out of the shell. If it is picked up, it will stretch out its arms and legs and open its mouth to bite. After eating normally in the new environment, the resting place is relatively fixed. During the day, I saw it squirming everywhere in the pond, and at night it returned to the turtle nest.

3. Food habits: In the wilderness, concave-armored tortoises eat plants, such as bamboo shoots, weeds, wild fruits and other plants. Under the premise of artificial feeding, they eat cucumbers, watermelons, bananas, apples, and charophytes, but they do not eat potatoes, carrots, lettuce, and cabbage leaves. The two turtles raised by the Nanjing Turtle and Turtle Museum in 1992 not only ate plants, but also lean pork and beef, but refused to eat earthworms, fish, mealworms and shrimp.
